Reverse Engineering

Reverse engineering using HD scan data is the most efficient way to generate a BIM model from a physical object that has any kind of complex or freeform shape.

Advantages of using GRÜN’s Intelligent Model and Reverse Engineering:

  • From the scan and the model we are able to verify the structural integrity of the structure. We check the overall stability, all of the members strengths and if they are suitable to resist the applied loads. Foundations are also able to be checked subject to verification of their size and by having the reinforcement scanned. From this we are able to supply the client a fully detailed structural report verifying the current status of the structure’s integrity.
  • From the intelligent model we can extract a full set of ‘As-Built’ CAD drawings (plans and sections).
  • Surveying the structure with traditional methods would be time consuming, not accurate and potentially dangerous. With the HD Scan and the intelligent 3D model there is no need to access high and potentially dangerous elements. If for example there was a need for a new platform this could all be planned by modelling the proposed platform in the intelligent 3d model and checked to avoid any potential clashes.
  • If the structure is found not to be structurally sound and the client requires, we are able to produce the re-engineering design solution as well as the re-engineering drawings. Once these designs have been implemented we will issue the client an Engineers Certificate certifying the structure.
